Sacred Heart Church
Sacred Heart Church is a chapel of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Intended to serve the growing population of Catholic families along the Clark Fork River, the building was funded by a donation of $1,000 from the Catholic Church Extension Society and completed in February of 1938 under the pastorate of Father Michael McGowan. Early furnishings for Sacred Heart came from the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cabinet after attendance declined there and the church was closed in 1939. During the 1960’s the Knights of Columbus remodeled the exterior with new cedar siding. In 1976 the church purchased eight oak benches, new kneelers and a year later new carpeting was installed. The church serves approximately 20 local Catholic families, however the attendance swells during the summer season.
